30-Apr-09:  I.F. Categorization Scheme Complete

The I.F. info browser functionality is 95% done.  You can go to the I.F. downloads page and search
for implementation files by category or by text search.  I.F. protocol schemes are also 100% done.

Granted, there are only a few file formats available, and the download links do not function yet, but
the architecture is in place.  In the next week I will be adding all the "free" formats for users to
experiment with.

22-Apr-09:  Official Website Launch

Today marks the formal launch date of the BARfly business website.  Product availability is still a
ways off.  Product demonstrations so far have shown great promise, so be sure to check back soon.

What is available on the site now are the product details, business contact information, and full
product documentation.

Especially the
documentation:  this composes the full online help for both the BARfly application
and the BAR implementation file reference for developers.  I encourage you to look at it now.
22-May-09:  Customer Accounts Ready

Nearly done with I.F. info browser.  Also posted policies and legal information about I.F. downloads.
Also, the online reference documentation for BARfly has been updated.

More detailed terms of BARfly license purchases are now available at
barflypurchase.php.

Implemented a new system of user accounts for the site.  The idea behind these accounts is to
have each account act as a personal record of your business dealings with us, as well as allow you
to make purchases and downloads from this site.

Establishing an account is simple and free.  A user MUST have an account if he or she wishes to
download or purchase any products through this site, including the free trial downloads.

In the next few days, I will be formally posting the free formats.  Soon to follow will be the BARfly
Bronze Demo!
5-Jun-09:  Grand Opening!

BARfly Bronze Demo installation package is now available for download.  I.F. info browser is now
complete.  It's all ready to go!

Users are formally invited to try out the
demo version of BARfly Bronze, as well as download the free
file formats offered with BARfly Bronze.  Enjoy!

You will probably ask why "that ONE file format is not on the website."  If you've ever browsed the
formats on
www.wotsit.org, you will know just how many of them are out there!  We welcome all
requests to add new formats to the site, with the hope of making our knowledge-base complete one
day.

What IS available for download now are some of the more common file formats.  Be sure to check
back at the site regularly; more are soon to follow.

Non-free formats and non-demo builds of BARfly are not yet available for purchase through the
website.  If you would like advanced copies, please contact
chris@chriskallen.com directly.
12-Jun-09:  Say hello to MS Office...

What's this?  The OLE2 general format is now available?  Absolutely!  You can download OLE2
(also known as
Microsoft Compound Document Format) on the formats page.

So what, exactly, can you do with OLE2?  Read virtually any Microsoft Office document created in the
late 90's and most of the 00's!  For all you people who have been wanting to explore what these
formats "actually" look like but did not want to waste the time and energy doing your own research,
you can now have a look at no cost!

This I.F. is actually a stand-alone component that will eventually contribute to much more ambitious
schemas, representing detailed versions of MS Office documents.  Right now, you can open just
about any file with extension DOC, XLS, or PPT.

The OLE2 deserializer will definitely
not work on some of Microsoft's "improved" versions of these
documents, such as DOCX, XLSX, or PPTX.  Microsoft loves to completely change its file formats
once every few years.  Supposing the formats significantly improve as a result, such actions are
somewhat justified.

Of course, it takes
years for Microsoft to come up with a new format.  It takes us only hours to come
up with an I.F. to represent them!  The "X" versions of the documents are only a small setback.

Please remember, too:
the file format wars cannot be won.  Our job is to end them, rather than
win them, because revisions and revolutions are inevitable.  Implementation chaos, on the other
hand, is not.
